Visit from Egypt to Denmark October 24th to 30th 2010

Copenhagen, October 6th 2010

Dear participants in Egypt and Denmark

We’re looking forward to gather you for another fruitful week to continue developing the partnerships between the involved Danish and Egyptian schools.

The exchange has been build up during the recent year (2009-2010) with two prior visits to Denmark and Egypt for the involved teachers. Some of you have therefore already met and worked together while others will be new to the project. For the newcomers – please be in contact with your country coordinator for any questions or information that you might need to get a better sense of the activities until now.

Based on the evaluations from the first phase of the exchange we’ve developed the program for the visit. We’re organizing two separate workshops during the first two days of the visit. They are followed by a day where we will visit a couple of great sites in Copenhagen and participate in a bigger event at Copenhagen open High School. The common program is followed by two days at the partner schools before returning back to Cairo on Saturday.

For more information about the program in Copenhagen (24th-27th) please see the following pages. For the content of the days at the partner schools please be in touch with each other to plan the different activities.

I’m looking forward to welcome you all in Copenhagen and share this experience with you.

Sincerely,

Anne Mette W. Nielsen

Program

I’m very happy to inform you that Soliya (www.soliya.net) has agreed to held the workshop for us. Soliya has a longtime experience creating dialogue and learning through web platforms between Europe, America and the Middle East.

Soliya is a pioneering non-profit organization using new technologies to facilitate dialogue between students from diverse backgrounds across the globe.  Their flagship program, the Connect Program, uses the latest web-conferencing technology to bridge the gap between university students in the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and the United States.  In a time when media plays an increasingly powerful role in shaping peoples’ viewpoints on political issues, Soliya provides students with the opportunity, skills, and tools to shape and articulate their own viewpoints on some of the most pressing global issues facing their generation.

They will send Katja Riikonen who is their Facilitation Officer. She has played a lead role in designing and conducting Soliya’s online facilitation training in addition to providing coaching to the facilitators leading their online dialogue discussions.  Prior to working with Soliya, Katja worked at the Finnish Foreign and did her MA in International Conflict Analysis.  In addition to working with Soliya, she is also completing her PhD in the Peace Studies Department at the University of Bradford.

The program for the two day workshop will be planned this coming week. Please be in touch with Anne Mette (amwn@hum.ku.dk) if you have suggestions for the program that you like me to take along.

Day 4: Once upon a time in Copenhagen…

The 27th of October 2010 Global High Schools will be offering a day of activities for our guests from Egypt

We will have an interesting day spent in good company in the midst of the central part of Copenhagen.

As the canals are an important part of the city landscape in Copenhagen, we will be exploring the history of the traditional and newer parts of the city by the routes of the water.

In order to get a more in depth understanding of Danish history and culture we will also pay a visit to the National Museum. Where art and objects from ancient times until now are presented, as well as an interesting exhibition called “Sharjah – Art from the Emirates”. To compliment our visual, auditory and communicative input, we will also feast our taste buds, on some Danish lunch.

Our trip will end at the opening conference of “The Innovation Factory”, Copenhagen Open High School’s unique learning space at 3 PM in a new neighborhood in Copenhagen, the former Carlsberg Brewery.

Our coordinator Celeste Elizabeth Arnold will be your guide: celeste@globalegymnasier.dk
