Langkær Gymnasium & HF is a youthful society, just as lively and multifarious as the world outside. We have a varied crowd of students from different environments and cultures. We inspire each other – we meet to learn - from and with each other.
Everybody contributes to create a school based on tolerance and consideration. Differences are no obstacles but invitations. Together we make this school a better place to be.
First of all our goal is to ensure a secure center for learning and a home for intellectual development.
The school provides the background for some of the most important years in your life and we will be supporting all the way. In return, we expect you to be an active and enterprising student, who wants to make a serious effort.
We appreciate academic qualifications and discipline. We offer personal development, general education, dialog, art and experiences, varied work. In other words, you are going on a journey - from being a pupil to being a student. And we will make you a good sailor, so the ship won’t go down, when you take the helm. But only you decide the course!
The teachers have more knowledge, than you. However, it doesn’t make them a know-all. Education is not only a monolog, but a dialog as well. Use your freedom of speech!
The primary purpose of education is mostly general education. By general education we mean the sum of abilities that give us a way to understand the world plus the cultural expressions.
An interaction between students and teachers is the basic foundation for a versatile discussion. You have to fight for your ideas and opinions, but still respect different ways of views than yours. Together we get acquainted with different perspectives to make a relevant background for further work.
Aside from the education, art and experiences are central elements in our school culture. We have the facilities for you to express yourself on the stage and create art at a professional level.

The History of Langkær
In 1973 the county council of Aarhus decided to build a gymnasium in Tilst, which is a suburb to Aarhus. Only two years later (1975), a brand new gymnasium was ready to be used. With that, the gymnasium had its 30th anniversary in 2005.
The high school has through time contributed with many different developments in the area and has carried a character for that. The high school had a hard start, since the postures to the school had been critical from the political side. But the 69-generation had a good effect - young people with quality knowledge.
The school had a happy union with the HF in 1989, which resulted in employing many new teachers who had lector degrees as time went by. At the end of the 1990’s there were so many different demands from the surroundings to the high school and HF, that they introduced a new salary system and new working arrangement.
The reforms of the gymnasium structure were put to use in august 2005 and put both senior masters and student on a test. It brought along new conditions for everybody.
With all the changes that are still waiting, we need to be patient and tolerant.
Nothing is for sure yet but is in the revising process. In spite of the changes, we have a bright future to expect. Together we can handle everything.
